“Talbot’s ‘not my first rodeo,’ farm-girl sincerity had me riding right beside her down that lonely stretch of Southern highway”
“In her latest album, she shows that her songwriting chops are up with greats like Dolly Parton ... with her humor and her pathos, her cheeky and somber feminist tendencies, and songs that come across as fully baked country tunes. ”
“Talbot brings an edge–think Loretta Lynn, or....notable West Virginian currently on the rise, Sierra Ferrell””
Playing professionally since her early teens, Talbot Mayo is no stranger to the stage or the studio. As a singer and musician she delivers memorable performances night in and night out and as a songwriter she weaves together a variety of genres and sounds to create something unique but still relatable. Rooted in old-time bluegrass and country standards, Talbot’s music also draws influence from honky-tonk and modern alternative rock tunes. Lyrically she highlights mundane chores, folk lore, heartache, the family farm, and anything else that catches her eye. With songs ranging from two-step dance numbers to somber murder ballads and everything in between, there’s rarely a dull moment when Talbot is on stage.
Talbot has been lucky enough to share the stage with a variety of Baltimore-area musicians such as the all-originals Monkton Road Band (founded alongside the indomitable Susie West), and is still appearing with her family bluegrass band (The Mayo Family) while leading her own Talbot Mayo Band into 2025 and beyond. In addition to a rigorous schedule of live shows, Talbot is constantly honing her skills by providing session work in the studio or by learning new songs to perform with other local players. Recent recording trips to Nashville, both with the Monkton Road Band and as a solo musician, have also inspired her to keep writing and performing at an ever higher level.
